Corniche Lunch Buffet: Diamond Hotel Manila

Although this post is 3 months delayed, it's definitely worth writing about. Thanks to my aunt, my cousin and I were granted our own golden ticket to Diamond Hotel Manila's newest restaurant, Corniche, which is conveniently located at the hotel's lobby. Elegantly designed and decorated with what seemed like dove-shaped glass on the ceiling, Corniche serves a lovely food spread fit for breakfast (P988), lunch (P1420) and dinner (P1480) all at a great price.  I like going to buffets during mid-day the best mainly because I'm hungry enough from not eating breakfast and once I'm royally full, my stomach has time to rest throughout the day.

They say that one of the rules when eating in a buffet is to keep yourself from eating rice just so you'd have enough room to try everything else. I like breaking rules...food-wise. And I do this by eating as much rice as I want! I can go as far as having four buffet plates, two of which are filled with dessert since it's the one thing I look forward to the most whenever I'm given so much food to choose from.

I'm going to let the photos to most of the talking now.

I couldn't help but do little jumps (no, I did not skip) in the restaurant once I saw that they had several shelves dedicated to candy.

Lechon Macau + Tempura + rice =  :D :D

Yeaup. Don't be surprised, this is my tempura share.

Butter Croissant

Chocolate Croissant

Spongebob must be looking for Mr. Crabs right about...now.

Parmesan-encrusted salmon

Roast Pork

Bread & Butter

The chocolate cake and cheesecake were my favorite in this sweet bunch.

The fact that the restaurant was spacious, bright and had a sky-high ceiling made eating so much more enjoyable. The buffet spread covered most of the cuisines - Filipino, Chinese, American, Italian, Japanese and Indian. Picky-eaters (such as myself) won't have a hard time choosing dishes they like and might even leave the restaurant more open to trying new dishes!

I'm pretty sure you can tell based on the photos that I enjoyed eating all the food I put on my plate. Corniche is definitely worth a second, third and fourth visit (of course, it's not limited to the number four..you know what I mean! *laughs*)

S&R: One Stop Grub Shop!

I recall visiting this membership shopping place back when I was in high school. At that time, it was still called PriceSmart. A couple of years after S&R landed in the Philippines, the name was changed to what it is known as today. I've always wondered though, what exactly does S&R stand for? After doing a bit of research, I discovered that the two-letter grocery name stands for Sol & Robert Price, a father and son duo who founded the shop. Neat! Anyhoo, enough chit-chat about the business side of things. Let's move on to what's really important here...food!

People visit grocery stores mainly to stuff their kitchen cupboards and refrigerators with delicious food. In my case, I enjoy visiting this warehouse-like food haven for several reasons: one, their huge carts. Size really does matter. Pushing a ginormous cart around the grocery makes me feel like I'm actually allowed to pull anything and everything out of the shelves and throw them straight in. And I'm not embarrassed to admit that I like riding the cart around like a kid on training wheels. Moments like those make me feel lucky for having a small stature. *laughs* Two, bulk packaging makes me feel like I'm preparing for a zombie apocalypse. Three, wide spaces. This is where my "scooter spree" with the push carts come in. The isles are broad enough for me to speed like a mad woman! And four, S & R's very own burgers, pizza and pastries!

So after a having more than 6 exams in a span of 5 days this week, I decided to reward myself with some comfort food.

Vegetable Pizza

Cheeseburger

Their patty reminds me a lot of homemade burgers. It doesn't taste as processed as most burgers do in fast food joints. I don't eat vegetables. So what I usually do when I eat a burger in S & R is I take out the vegetables and spread a heaping amount of mayonnaise on the top bun.  Yeaup, I'd be the worst person to advocate healthy eating.

Chocolate Chip Muffin

Their muffins look like they were injected with steroids. So if you think you would still want to have this for dessert after a meal, make sure you have enough room. :)

I usually enjoy my desserts with a tall glass of milk.

Embedded in the muffin are soft and sweet chocolate chips.

Chili's on a Friday

Fridays are something I always look forward to. After a long week of school, deadlines, ward work and 4-hour lectures in between breaks, there is that sigh of relief and the utterance of "Thank goodness it's Friday!" that never fails to leave my mouth. Ending the week with a smorgasbord of food is, to me, one of the most satisfying pleasures of life and that is exactly how my Friday night went.

Before getting down to the core of our meals, we started off with some of their appetizers. Nachos, coupled with their Skillet Queso and salsa, was enough to get our taste buds running. After the first batch of nachos was close to reaching a hollow status, it was immediately refilled before we could even ask for more. You would think that an order of these never ending nachos would be enough to make you feel stuffed, but not this hungry tummy. I would usually go for a huge burger with fries but I had a sudden craving for some fried chicken, so I ordered their Chicken Crispers, which did its name justice. One bite into a chicken crisper and I could hear myself crunch loudly as I chewed.

Big Mouth Burger Bites

My cousins ordered the Big Mouth Burger Bites, which is said to be one of the restaurant's best dishes. What it is is a bacon cheeseburger...miniature style. Okay, maybe they're not that small. *laughs* They are, however, tinier versions of the burgers they serve in the restaurant. Topped with bacon, cheese, sauteed onions, green onions and ranch dressing and a pierced with a stick to keep everything in position. These burger bites would be perfect for people who have a hard time eating monstrous burgers and who like to keep the sauce from dripping down their hands when biting into a really juicy burger. Although, I would go for a supersized burger and eat it with my bare hands any day!
